Viktor Hárs is a cornerstone of the Hungarian jazz scene—a virtuoso bassist, composer, and arranger whose career spans over four decades and more than 120 recordings. Equally adept on double bass and electric bass, Hárs began his musical journey at 15. His versatile style bridges traditional jazz, contemporary fusion, and pop-jazz making him a sought-after collaborator across genres.
Hárs has performed with a stellar roster of international jazz icons, including Al Jarreau, Herbie Mann, Didier Lockwood, Al Di Meola, Trilok Gurtu, and David Liebman. His extensive touring history includes appearances at major festivals in Montreux, Vienna, Marseille, Bangkok, and Warsaw. He has also contributed to numerous theater and film scores, notably collaborating with composer Patrick Doyle on the soundtrack for Bridget Jones’s Diary.
As a composer and arranger, Hárs has created works for ensembles like the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, including the five-movement suite Barbed Wire Child. His solo albums, Yellow (1997) and Contacts & Conflicts (1998), showcase his original compositions and innovative approach to jazz. Currently, he is a member of groups such as the HársHegy Band, Babos Project Special, and the Modern Art Orchestra, and continues to influence the jazz world through both performance and education.
