Drummer, percussionist, and composer Stéphane Beuvelet is a graduate of the C.N.M. in Montpellier. He played and recorded in a wide variety of musical styles, from jazz and salsa to rock and drum’n’bass, from Brasilian to African music. He has trained with internationally renowned artists such as Claudio Belonzi, Dave Liebman, and Billy Hart. He has performed at major music festivals in France and abroad—including Nîmes, Nice, Sète, Radio France, and Fiesta Broadway in Los Angeles—and has shared the stage with acclaimed musicians such as Hannah John Taylor, Christian Escoudé, John Abercrombie, and Stéphane Belmondo.
Stéphane Beuvelet has been a professional musician for over 40 years, exploring a wide range of styles from classical and Afro to pop-rock and jazz, both traditional and contemporary. At 19, he joined the group Gibraltar, which notably opened for Miles Davis, marking a key milestone early in his career. Since then, he has continued to perform with various ensembles, including Organik Trio—which he founded in 2006—and Nougarotribu.
Alongside his performance career, Stéphane has developed a deep passion for teaching. He has worked in numerous settings, from community centers (MJC, MPT) and private music schools to repeated invitations at the Conservatory of Narbonne. For over two decades, he has been a dedicated educator at Le JAM (Jazz Action Montpellier), where he teaches drums, ensemble performance (jazz and contemporary music), and rhythm in professional training programs.
Over the years, Stéphane has collaborated with notable musicians such as Christian Escoudé, John Abercrombie, Stéphane Belmondo, Louis Martinez, and Rique Pantoja. He has performed at major festivals and venues in France and abroad, including Nîmes, Nice, Sète, Radio France, Petit Journal Montparnasse, Théâtre de la Mer, and Fiesta Broadway in Los Angeles. His projects have taken him across the globe, with tours in the USA, Brazil, Sweden, Jordan, China, and Siberia.
Between 2013 and 2017, he recorded with Louis Martinez and Sylvain Luc, released the album Time Travellers with Organik Trio, and performed with Nougarotribu at prominent venues. During this period, he also presented a Weather Report project at the Conservatory of Narbonne and toured with Life Is Not a Picnic, performing internationally. Recordings such as Zoom (jazz) and Slidewinders (nu-funk) further showcased his versatility, while collaborations with Brazilian artists like Elaine Correa and Patric Agullo deepened his connection to world music.
Prior to 2009, Stéphane’s career included performances with groups like Gipsyland, Nefta (France/Tunisia), Jangada (Brazilian music), Stromboli (salsa), and Black and Blue (blues rock), along with tours, festival appearances, and recordings. In 1994, he founded the jazz quintet Joueurs de Jazz, producing an album and touring widely. His time with Gibraltar from 1986 to 1989 saw numerous festivals, awards, and a release with Harmonia Mundi.
