Bernard Baldous is a double bassist, composer, arranger, and conductor with a career spanning stage, studio, and education. He studied at the Conservatoire of Montpellier and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he trained under John Repucci, John Neves, and Bruce Gertz.
Based in Paris from 1981 to 1986 and in Montpellier since 1987, Bernard has performed with ensembles like Instant Jazz Quintet, Bojazz, and the Philippe Lejeune Trio and Quartet. As a sideman, he has played with Hal Singer, Marc Levine, Eddie Goldstein, and Siegfried Kessler. His discography includes Concerto for Jazz Band and Orchestra by Rolf Liebermann, Harlem by Duke Ellington, and Groovin’ Blues by Philippe Lejeune.
An experienced educator, he teaches double bass, jazz history, and music writing using MuseScore. He also leads orchestra classes and conducts the Jam Standard Orchestra.
